Shall we gather at the river
Shall we gather at the river
Words & Music: Robert Lowry 1864
Recorded at Rowley Baptist Church June 2010

Shall we gather at the river
Where bright angel feet have trod
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Yes, we'll gather at the river
The beautiful, the beautiful river
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God

On the margin of the river
Washing up its silver spray
We will talk and worship ever
All the happy golden day

Ere we reach the shining river
Lay we every burden down
Grace our spirits will deliver
And provide a robe and crown

At the shining of the river
Mirror of the Saviours face
Saints, whom death will never sever
Lift their songs of saving grace

Soon we'll reach the silver river
Soon our pilgrimage will cease
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace

Shall We Gather at the River Hymn (with lyrics)
#510 Shall We Gather At The River

A very old hymn about Our Eternal Destiny.
Ro bert Low ry, this is his story.
One af ter noon in Ju ly, 1864, when I was pas tor at Han son Place Bap tist Church, Brook lyn, the wea ther was op press ive ly hot, and I was ly ing on a lounge in a state of phys ic al ex haust ionMy imag in a tion be gan to take it self wings. Vi sions of the fu ture passed be fore me with start ling vi vidness. The im ag ery of the apoc a lypse took the form of a ta bleau. Bright est of all were the throne, the heav en ly ri ver, and the ga ther ing of the saintsI be gan to won der why the hymn writ ers had said so much about the riv er of death and so lit tle about the pure wa ter of life, clear as crys tal, pro ceeding out of the throne of God and the Lamb. As I mused, the words be gan to con struct them selves. They came first as a quest ion of Christ ian in quiry, Shall we ga ther? Then they broke in chor us, Yes, well ga ther. On this quest ion and an swer the hymn de vel oped it self. The mu sic came with the hymn.
Stay true to Him, The Lord is the Groom, we are His bride.
How would you feel if your spouse cheated on you?
Don't think worldly, I'm talking about spiritual adultery. Walk alone with him in your heart, and him alone. Then you will be a true bride, keep his demands and his precepts.
Read your bible get to know him, it is the ONLY way to Him.
