We don't get what we deserve (2) |
"...Are you going to get stingy because I am generous?" Matt 20:15 |
Remember yesterday's note? Go on then read it again, we're not going anywhere ... Now you're back, we want to talk a bit more about the story in Matthew 20. So it's the end of a hot day and all the workers have been paid the same, including the ones who haven't been sweating in the sun all day. The workers who have been slogging away all day complain to the boss because they think this isn't fair. Here is what the Bible says: 'He replied to the one speaking for the rest, "Friend, I haven't been unfair. We agreed on the wage ... didn't we? So take it and go ... Can't I do what I want with my own money? Are you going to get stingy because I am generous?"' (TM). It's so easy for us to look at other people and focus on what they've got instead of what God has given us. There is always someone who seems to have got a better deal out of life. Like the youth who makes a film star look like a minger, plays every instrument in the worship band and invented time travel for their GCSE Science project. People like that make it easy to hate both yourself and them! Know what will make your life easier and happier? Stop comparing and complaining. Focus on what you have got, like forgiveness, God's unique plan for your life, a place in heaven; to name just a few. |
