JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD

Christianity can be condensed into four words: Admit, Submit, Commit and Transmit. -Samuel Wilberforce

JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD

This morning, as I was reading Our Daily Bread, it suddenly occurred to me that Psalm 119, which is focused upon God’s Word, could have but one author:  the pre-incarnate Word of God!  This is the passage that was quoted, and you tell me if there ever was a human being that could possibly be described by these words:

[97] O how love I thy law!  It is my meditation all the day.[98] Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies:
for they are ever with me.[99] I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.[100] I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.[101] I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.[102] I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.[103] How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth![104] Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
The word “word” appears in thirty-seven verses in Psalm 119; that is approximately twenty-five percent of its one hundred fifty verses!  The Apostle John referred to Jesus as “The Word” six verses of his writings in the New Testament:
John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Wordwas God.”
John 1:14 – “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
John 14:6 – “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”  Compare with John 17:17 – “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy Word is truth.”
1 John 1:1 – “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life.”
1 John 5:7 - “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
Revelation 19:13 – “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.”
Both Jesus and the Bible are called “The Word of God!”
