On Saturday, October 30, 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia brought together over 650 choristers from 28 participating organizations to perform one of the Knight Foundation's "Random Acts of Culture" at Macy's in Center City Philadelphia. Accompanied by the Wanamaker Organ - the world's largest pipe organ - the OCP Chorus and throngs of singers from the community infiltrated the store as shoppers, and burst into a pop-up rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah" at 12 noon, to the delight of surprised shoppers. This event is one of 1,000 "Random Acts of Culture" to be funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation over the next three years. The initiative transports the classical arts out of the concert halls and opera houses and into our communities to enrich our everyday lives. To learn more about this program and view more events, visit www.randomactsofculture.org. The Opera Company thanks Macy's and the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ (www.wanamakerorgan.com) for their partnership, as well as Organ Music Director Peter Conte and Fred Haas, accompanists; OCP Chorus Master Elizabeth Braden, conductor; and Sound Engineer James R. Stemke. For a complete list of participating choirs and more information, visit www.operaphila.org/RAC. This event was planned to coincide with the first day of National Opera Week.

For those of us who believe in God, any expression we call good is of God. Even atheists will respond to good art. I love Stravinsky, Scriabin, Mahler, Brahms, Copland, Britten, Bach and (of course) Handel ... to mention a few. Not all were believers. Not all even theists. They were all, however, musicians "gifted" above us lesser mortals. Don't you agree? When you have such inspiration as "all agree" is displayed in this composition, God is exalted.

It is all about Christ. Halleluja!! And He shall reign for ever and ever!!! Praise Macys for choosing to praise Him like this. They could have chose differently. He is King of kings and Lord of lords

!!

Moved to tears/ What a wonderful use of this great secular, commercial space - to give glory to the One who transcends anything we could ever build or buy.

  • thank you Jesus... we praise Your Holy Name... this brings tears to my eyes... we are all connected .... Praise God!

  • PRAISE GOD TO THE HIGHEST !

  • I needed this so much today. To see that the Name of the LORD proclaimed in public and being reminded that the Kindoms of this earth is become the Kingdom of our LORD and of His Christ and that he shall reign forever and ever! I was so uplifted by this.

  • WONDERFUL !!!

  • AMAZING

    • "....and He shall reign forever and ever." Amen. This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with all.

    • This was just beautiful. Take a good look at some of the faces of those singing and you may see them again someday in God's Heavenly Choir where many of the rest of us can join in?

I started listening and following this video clip since Monday morning when it had about 130,000+ views and now it is at 547,539.

I followed one of the links and see that this will be done in presented in several other cities. Thanks to Macys and the ones that took the video and posted it.

    • That was GREAT!! It made my day. We still are a Christian nation and even the non-believer will feel good after watching this.

    • @selkie9 I was thinking the same thing myself.

    • Amazing! I wish something like that would happen in my community.

      • Wow wow....I just...wow I am SO glad I know Jesus...and that he is my King of kings...see that guy wipe a tear, and snap a shot, I love it. To God be the glory!! Impressed with how well my brothers and sisters know Scripture, hold on here...I think its Is. 14:7...did anybody quote it yet...hold on, getting my Bible... Ah, yes, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel." PROPHESY right here!

      • To atheists....God is alive and does not have to be proven !

This is just awesome! Praise the Lord !

      • Isaiah 45:23: I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.

Romans 14:11-13: 11 For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." 12 So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore..
